The Office of the Registrar & Student Services staff are committed to strong service excellence in supporting the academic and registrarial needs of current undergraduate, graduate and professional master's students. These services include advising and administration as it relates to registration, financial need, scholarships & awards, and graduation. In addition, the Office of the Registrar & Student Services is responsible for recruitment and admissions of prospective students, administration of experiential learning opportunities (international, research, in-field learning courses), scheduling of academic courses and exams and providing faculty support. The staff in the Office work collectively toward enhancing the student experience while being committed to operating under principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Your opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Associate Registrar & Manager, Student Services, the incumbent provides academic and career advising in conjunction with student success strategies and initiatives to assist the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Educationin supporting its students.

Your responsibilities will include:

-Advising students on the development of their educational plans
-Advising students on program and/or course requirements by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual’s background
-Advising on the appropriateness, precedents and process for petitions and appeals, and suggesting alternative course of action as necessary
-Monitoring student degree progress
-Facilitating educational workshops and seminars and developing learning outcomes to assess their effectiveness
-Advising students on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
-Keep well-informed on changes to policies, procedures and applicable legislated requirements
-Providing proactive support to individuals in distress and making referrals to specific university services
 

Essential Qualifications:

-Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
-Minimum of four years of work experience in a post-secondary setting providing academic advising to undergraduate students in relation to academic requirements, policies and procedures
-Minimum of one year of experience delivering high-impact academic advising, with demonstrated application of established developmental advising models (e.g Proactive Advising, Strength-Based Advising, Appreciative Advising, Advising as Teaching)
-Minimum of two years of experience in planning, implementing and evaluating programming designed to support student development, progress and success
-Established knowledge of student developmental theory and ability to effectively guide students toward setting and reaching goals
-Ability to maintain sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, linguistic, ideological, and ethnic background
-Established knowledge of how and when to appropriately guide students to additional campus resources that are needed
-Good judgment and ability to interact with others with tact, courtesy, patience and confidentiality in adherence with FIPPA policies
-Ability to respond calmly and professionally to students who may be in emotionally distressed
-Demonstrated initiative and commitment to working effectively as a team member in the delivery of quality service
-Ability to work under pressure and with a large volume of work under limited supervision

Assets (Nonessential):

-Working knowledge of ROSI or similar Student Record System and Degree Explorer is an asset.
-Completion of at least Level 1 of U of T’s Academic Advising Training Program (AATP) is considered an asset

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:

USW Pay Band 12 -- $81,312. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $103,986. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
