Your Opportunity:

The Centre for Research & Innovation Support (CRIS) serves as a hub where faculty can learn about and easily access services, training, research tools, and expertise offered across the University of Toronto. CRIS plays a vital role in supporting tri-campus institutional research and innovation activities by leading and coordinating central units and academic divisions to promote new and existing research and innovation supports, promoting researcher development, and enabling collaboration & engagement. CRIS is committed to supporting researchers in their professional development, as well as maximizing the impact of their discoveries and insights and the mobilization of those insights to society.

Under the general direction of the Director, CRIS, the Manager, CRIS Operations & Programs is responsible for the efficient and effective management of the administrative operations that include digital platforms, communications, researcher development programming, facilities, events, project management, and data systems. The Manger CRIS oversees the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of CRIS’s services and systems. This includes strategic planning for researcher development, optimizing internal processes, integrating emerging technologies such as AI, and ensuring alignment with institutional and divisional standards.

The Manager, CRIS Operations & Programs is responsible for overseeing a team of staffs that support the development of programming and resources. In a leadership and mentorship role, the incumbent assumes responsibility for developmental, people leadership and strategic leadership.

Essential Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

Post graduate degree (Master’s or PhD) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. PhD preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum six (6) years of progressive experience in a research administration that includes researcher development program design, delivery, and evaluation within a university or research focused institution. Must have experience designing and delivering professional development programming using curriculum development principles, adult learning theory, and instructional design methodologies.

Experience with stakeholder engagement and consultations, as well as designing and executing program evaluation strategies, including data collection, analysis, and reporting to inform continuous improvement and strategic planning. Proven track record in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic initiatives that enhance researcher development, through digital services and institutional research support services. Experience preparing successful proposals for external funding, including grant writing, budget development, and coordination with institutional research offices or external partners. Experience with complex report writing and presentation preparation and delivery appropriate for senior leaders.

In-depth understanding of the post-secondary environment, the research and innovation landscape across the humanities, social sciences and STEM fields, and development and provision of support for researcher development. Familiarity with university governance, research funding ecosystems and academic culture. Experience with stakeholder consultations and engagement activities.

Experience managing enterprise- or multiunit information systems and digital platforms (e.g., SharePoint, CRM, or research support systems), including system design, user access, data integrity, and compliance with institutional data governance policies. Experience overseeing digital communications, website management, stakeholder engagement strategies in alignment with institutional branding and accessibility standards.

Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and managing a complex portfolio of projects involving multiple stakeholders and competing priorities. Experience managing project and program budgets, procurement processes, and vendor relationships in compliance with University or other public sector financial policies.

Experience supervising staff, including performance management, and fostering inclusive team environment. Experience within management and supervision in a unionized environment.

SKILLS:

Excellent research skills including grant and scholarly writing, presentation and analytical skills and research project implementation. Strong grant and proposal writing skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives, align with funder priorities, and coordinate complex submissions across multiple stakeholders. Strong program evaluation skills, including the ability engage with stakeholders for needs assessments, to develop metrics, analyze feedback, and translate findings into actionable improvements.

Demonstrated ability principles of curriculum development, pedagogical principles, adult learning theory, mentorship approaches and instructional design to oversee impactful programming and professional learning for faculty and researchers. Advanced project management skills, including planning, execution, risk mitigation, and evaluation. Deep understanding of EDI principles and their application in program design, service delivery, and team leadership.

Proficiency in digital tools and platforms such as SharePoint, Microsoft 365, website CMS (e.g., WordPress or Drupal), and data analytics tools. Strong systems management skills, including oversight of collaborative platforms (e.g., SharePoint), event management systems (e.g., EVE), and internal databases, with the ability to ensure data integrity, user access, and alignment with institutional standards and privacy policies. Experience with oversight of delegated access and user permissions across enterprise systems, including training and support for distributed users.

OTHER:

Ability to develop and oversee strategic communications aligned with institutional branding, accessibility standards, and digital engagement best practices. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a capacity to anticipate challenges and implement effective solutions. Ability to exercise tact, superior judgment and diplomacy. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and handle stressful situations. Superior ability to foster a collaborative environment within the office as well as within the broader community. Ability to work with senior administrative and academic administrators in a manner that facilitates cooperation.
