About the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT):

The Indiana Office of Technology provides cost-effective, secure, consistent, reliable enterprise-technology services to our partner agencies so that they can better serve our mutual customer, the Hoosier taxpayer. IOT will also act as the technology and solution enabler for the State, helping its partner agencies achieve business objectives and innovation.

The Identity and Access Management Team supports a myriad of technologies related to identity and authentication such as Active Directory, Entra ID, OKTA Identity Engine, and Google Cloud. Active Directory services include core infrastructure services such as directory services and DNS but also include technologies such as AD Connect, Identity Management services (MIM) and Multi-factor Authentication (MFA). 

Role Overview: 

The Systems Administrator Senior creates documentation, workflows, and other supporting materials for systems topology, support, and administrative actions.  You wil troubleshoot, reaearch, and resolve escalated technical problems and incidents in a timely and professional manner.  This includes:

-Developing, implementing, and maintaining strong authentication policies including Single Sign On identity federation, Active Directory credential policies, conditional access rules, and Multi-Factor Authentication.
-Monitoring and logging tools to maintain visibility and uptime of identity systems as well as to ensure proper functionality.
-Daily management and support of IAM related technology.
-Maintaining a thorough understanding of IAM principles and processes in accordance with applicable industry standards and best practices.
-Designing, developing, testing, implementing, and integrating Identity and Access Management systems and solutions.
-Ensuring strong authentication, authorization, role-based access controls (RBAC) are implemented in existing and new applications and products.
 

Additionally, the Systems Administrator Senior will assist and at times lead projects while adhering to the principles of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include:

-Defining the needs, benefits, and technical strategy, research and development within the project life cycle.
-Technical analysis and design.
-Supporting the operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions. 
 

This role requires a strong background in scripting and automation using PowerShell or related languages.  

Salary : 

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $70,122 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.

A Day in the Life:

Technical Support:

-Responsible for testing, debugging, and documentation of system software upgrades and new releases, which may include program design and coding.
-Evaluate new and existing software products.
-Implement operating system enhancements to improve system reliability and performance.
-Design, develop, modify, and maintain complex system software using releases and utilities.
-Responsible for software applications related to the overall operating system, including sophisticated file maintenance routines, telecommunications networks, and computer accounting.
Project Management:

-Assign staff to various projects, direct their activities, and evaluate their work.
-May perform as team lead or project manager in assigned areas.
-May oversee multiple projects or project phases.
Communication/Collaboration:

-Mentor and provide guidance to new and lower-level staff.
-Confer with department management to assist in planning, organizing, and controlling activities of assigned areas.
System Administration:

-Responsible for activities related to systems administration.
-Ensure long-term requirements of systems operations and administration, including overall systems planning.
-Responsible for installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of computer software and its components.
-Responsible for quality assurance review of system software.
-Defines system software and hardware requirements.
Planning & Budgeting:

-Ensure long-term requirements of systems operations and administration, including overall systems planning.
-Confer with department management to assist in planning, organizing, and controlling activities of assigned areas.
Problem-Solving:

-Analyze complex IT issues and develop innovative solutions.
-Implement best practices for system reliability, performance, and security.
-Manage crisis situations and ensure quick resolution of critical incidents.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

Credentials:

-a Master’s Degree in Computer Technology or related field and 1+ years of experience, or
-a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Technology or related field and 3+ year of experience, or 
-an Associate's Degree in Computer Technology or related field and 5+ years of experience, or 
-at least 7+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
-Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
Additional qualifications:

-Thorough knowledge of information technology system including software, hardware and their impact on the various components.
-Thorough knowledge of policies, standards, procedures and techniques.
-Thorough knowledge of information technology equipment, operation and capabilities. Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others.
-Ability to develop and execute system backup and recovery procedures and plans.
-Ability to work with other information technology support staff to develop capacity planning.
-Thorough knowledge of installation, maintenance, configuration of system software and system operating systems.
-Thorough knowledge in the use of tools and utilities to perform the system work.
-Thorough knowledge of designing, coding, testing, debugging and documenting system software components.
-Thorough knowledge in performance and tuning techniques.
-Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
