Your Opportunity
The Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research is an interdisciplinary research institute where researchers make fundamental discoveries in biology to improve health. Our faculty, staff and trainees come from various fields of science and collaborate to develop and apply cutting-edge tools in genome research, regenerative medicine and computational biology, ultimately to gain new insights about how the human body works. Founded in 2005, the Centre is globally recognized as a leading biomedical research hub thanks to our researchers’ landmark discoveries in genetics, stem cells and the molecular basis of disease, as well as state-of-the-art tools in analysis of large-scale datasets. The Al-Zahrani Lab aims to develop and apply new high throughput in vivo functional genomics tools to study how large-scale chromosomal alterations drive tumorigenesis and can be leveraged as a therapeutic vulnerability in cancer.
Qualifications:
-Ph.D. in molecular biology
-Minimum five (5) years of direct experience in high-throuput functional genomics CRISPR/Cas9 screening
-Strong publication record, with papers in internationally competitive, peer-reviewed journals
-Demonstrated experience and proficiency in:
-High throughput chemical and genetic screens in mammalian cells
-Molecular biology (primer and vector design, cloning, transformation)
-Microscopy (sample prep, high resolution imaging, data analysis)
-Cell culture (cell line inventory, lentiviral library construction, mammalian cell line transfection and infection, decontamination procedures)
-Compound and sample storage management
Assets (nonessential):
-Experience with project management
-Demonstrated record of training and mentoring staff at all levels
Responsibilities:
-Perform research with a high degree of independence
-Lead, design, plan, direct, execute, analyze and present findings from research projects and experiments
-Develop and apply multiplexed CRISPR screening in cell line and mouse models of cancer to identify novel therapeutic targets
-Ensure biosafety procedures and maintain laboratory biohazard/chemical inventory
-Maintain research equipment and train research lab members in its use; manage daily lab operations and train other research members
-Monitor project budgets, purchase consumables, and support the services necessary to carry out project activities; maintain inventories and manage the ordering system
-Present research at conferences, to Principal Investigators, and to lab members
