JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of

Senior Engineer

Reporting to the
Manager,
Engineering, these positions are responsible to
assume a lead role in providing engineering services and
support for inspection and maintenance program for planned outage campaigns; analyzing plant information; collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify trends; providing troubleshooting solutions; and advocating for opportunities to improve component health.

Technical services include design, assessment, advice, guidance and consultation, and troubleshooting within a designated segment of the assigned technical discipline (e.g., chemical, metallurgical, electrical, civil, mechanical, computer or other engineering disciplines).

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

-Fuel
 Channels and Reactor Components & Structures: Responsible for supporting Fuel Channels and Reactor Components & Structures inspection and maintenance campaigns for the planned outages, component health by monitoring and analyzing inspection data and assessment results, identifying trends, and providing fitness for service condition monitoring.
-Perform as a senior technical officer in a designated segment of the assigned engineering discipline(s) (e.g., chemical, metallurgical, electrical, mechanical, civil, computer, etc.) 
Provide engineering advice or direction as required (i.e., for risk assessments, dispositions, scope changes, investigations, etc.

-Provide engineering design, assessment, technical advice, guidance, consultation and other services to clients to deal with problems and projects of high complexity. Obtain and analyze pertinent information and recommend, as appropriate, perform tests, inspections, studies, etc. to support such activities.
-Participate in and/or chair meetings with involved groups, identify issues causing conflict or controversy (e.g., work priorities, objectives, etc.), and work together to analyze alternative approaches, and to reach mutual agreement on the problem resolution.
-Lead projects/studies within the discipline(s), and direct work of technician and junior staff and/or carry out full responsibility for assigned technical work programs. Develop work plans, determine resource requirements and balance workload with available resources (if applicable), coordinate work efforts with other involved groups, adapt project/study activities to address changing priorities, anticipate and resolve problems, and accomplish planned work results to the satisfaction of the client and Supervisor and within established budgetary and scheduling constraints.
-Under the guidance of the Supervisor, interact with and when required, appear before government authorities, agencies, regulatory bodies and legislative hearings as a technical expert in the discipline to make representations to secure, protect, or advance OPG's interests.
-Ensure that all work activities, programs, studies, and customer services reflect an awareness of applicable legislated, corporate and departmental safety requirements and programs and are in compliance with same.
-This position will involve the planning and support of work executed under N_PROC-MP-0090 and the ECC process.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

-A four-year bachelor’s degree in engineering

mechanical, chemical, materials, or nuclear disciplines preferred
)

-Minimum 2 years (ideally 4 years plus) of related experience
-Strong understanding of materials science, corrosion, and/or deformation mechanics
-Knowledge of relevant materials science/engineering principles, Fuel Channel and Reactor Components & Structures design, and material degradation mechanisms would be an asset
-Knowledge of CSA N285.0 requirements for pressure-retaining systems and components, and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III would be an asset

-Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions.
