Job Overview

ncinnati Libraries (UCL) seeks a proactive, service-oriented Library Operations Supervisor for the John Miller Burnam Classics Library. The incumbent supervises the work of approximately ten student associates, oversees the primary service point, and maintains the library’s stacks. Other responsibilities include assisting with event and program development, curating library exhibitions, drafting instructional and promotional materials, processing collections, managing budgets, and collecting data for related assessment activities. The incumbent may support class instruction, reference assistance, and research consultation to undergraduate and graduate students, staff, faculty, andvisiting scholars.This is a permanent, full-time position. 

RELATIONSHIP AND AUTHORITY: Reports to the Head of the John Miller Burnam Classics Library.

Essential Functions
-May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to student associates and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approving time off, etc.) to manage operational tasks and staffing of the primary service point.
-Manages appropriate budgets effectively.
-Manages all circulation activities, including check-outs, check-ins, recalls, holds, and reserves. Oversees the access to graduate student desks and visiting fellows’ offices. Responsible for fulfilling OhioLINK and ILL patron-initiated borrowing requests.
-Manages the library's stacks, including shelving, shelf-reading, inventory, orderliness, and periodic shifting. Reports facility issues for maintenance and repair.
-Oversees library supplies inventory, including ordering.
-Contributes to onsite and virtual exhibitions, and other forms of public outreach, including instruction through one-on-one consultations, workshops, seminars, bibliographic instruction sessions connected to individual classes, and the library’s web presence. Manages the library’s new book display.
-Assists others in developing and managing collections in all formats, including physical processing, vendor interactions, and catalog records. Supervises the preparation of content for bindery services.
-Assists patrons in the use of technology, including audiovisual equipment, microfilm readers, and scanners.
-Participates in the collection of data and statistics about the operations of the library and services provided.
-Work collaboratively with the Head of the Classics Library to develop and implement departmental policies and procedures. Review procedures and work with library administration and other departments to improve processes and structures for public service and library operations.
-Serve on UCL committees, task forces, and groups, as required, including the Student Supervisor Working Group. Serve on UC task forces, committees, and groups as able when relating to the realm of user experience and services.
-Performs new and additional tasks as needed to respond to changes in policies and procedures.

Required Education
-Bachelor's Degree
-Five (5) years of relevant education, experience and/or other specialized training can fulfill minimum education and experience requirements

Required Experience
-One (1) year of relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications Considered
-Working knowledge of an integrated library system (ILS).
-Recent supervisory experience, particularly with student employees.
-Strong commitment to innovative and responsive library services.
-Experience with operational management.
-An educational or experiential background in Classics or related disciplines.
-Ability to read and comprehend Ancient Greek, Latin, German, and/or French.
-Demonstrated interest in library special collections, rare books, or related materials.
-Demonstrated work experience serving a varied user population.
-Public or academic library experience.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
