Do you have a genuine talent for connecting with children who have complex needs in a mainstream classroom?

Can you provide calm and focused support that helps a pupil thrive academically and emotionally?

Are you ready to take on a highly rewarding role where your skills can transform a child's daily school life?

If so, we want to hear from you! Randstad Education is actively recruiting and building a strong pool of skilled Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants for a variety of roles across mainstream primary schools in the Leeds area. We're looking for passionate individuals who have a background in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities:

As an SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant, your role is crucial to the success of the pupils you support. You will be responsible for:

Providing one-on-one and small-group assistance to children with a range of SEN/SEMH needs, helping them to access the mainstream curriculum.
*

Confidently implementing individual support plans and using proactive de-escalation strategies to help pupils manage their emotions and behaviour.
*

Working closely with the class teacher to adapt learning materials and activities, ensuring all children can participate and feel a part of the classroom community.
*

Acting as a consistent and trusted adult, you will help facilitate social skills development and provide pastoral care to enhance a pupil's well-being.
*

Keeping meticulous records of a child's progress, challenges, and successes to provide clear feedback to the SENCO and teaching staff.

Requirements:

To be successful in this position, you must possess:

Demonstrable experience working with children with Special Educational Needs and/or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs.
*

An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing for a new one).
*

The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
*

A calm, patient, and highly resilient approach to working in a busy mainstream environment.
*

Strong communication skills, both for building rapport with pupils and liaising with staff and parents.
*

Relevant training in areas like Team Teach, Makaton, or PECS is highly desirable.
