Job Summary
The Bookkeeper plays a vital role in supporting the parish’s mission by maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with financial reporting in accordance with Archdiocesan policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities
-Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions, including accounts payable, receivable, and general ledger entries.
-Process payroll and ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and Archdiocesan guidelines.
-Reconcile bank statements and monthly financial reports.
-Prepare financial statements and reports for the Pastor, Finance Council, and Archdiocese as required.
-Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and track expenditures against budgeted amounts.
-Manage vendor relationships and ensure timely payment of invoices.
-Record parish contributions and generate reports as needed.
-Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and financial data.
-Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling all parish financial matters.
Job Requirements
-Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
-Previous bookkeeping or accounting experience required, preferably in a parish or nonprofit setting.
-Proficiency with QuickBooks or other accounting software; experience with ParishSOFT is a plus.
-Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
-Must be in compliance with the Archdiocese of St. Louis Safe Environment requirements.
