Survey 1 - "Whats your prefered method of finding a job?"
During the month of April a survey was carried out on the TipTopJob
website, to find out which was the preferred medium for seeking jobs.
We asked the candidates from our database in which order they would put their preferred method.
We categorized four different forms of Job seeking service.
This information was then collated in order of preference and comparisons were made to determine the candidates' favourite method. The results have been
outlined below and conclusions were made with regard to the most popular medium available.
Summary
Result 1: The results show clearly that No1. Trade newspapers (44%
of the votes) are still the most popular way of finding jobs. This
may be due to the fact that trade newspapers are much more focused
to a specific area.
Result 2: The next highest result is for No.2 Internet jobsites (35% of the votes) This figure is very high considering this particular medium has not been
available for as long.
Result 3: The next highest result is for No.3 National newspapers (14% of the votes). This shows that people are still using this conventional method of
job seeking, but it also shows how rapidly that the Internet is becoming a major player in this process. I would expect to see the Internet play the
largest part in providing this type of service within the near future.
Result 4: The lowest results were for No.4 the employers website (7% of the votes) which shows that the candidates would prefer to search for job
vacancies with a third party being involved.
One reason for this could be that the Job seekers know, that they will find a wider variety of opportunities from a more general site, because the site
itself is more likely to deal with several employers, allowing the candidate to find out about all the jobs or employers available in that field. Also,
recruitment companies may already have forged relationships with these employers, allowing the candidate to gain a better knowledge of what is required for
employment within that company.
The candidate would therefore have a better chance of being correctly briefed before the interview and would stand a much higher chance of obtaining the
job that had been hoped for.
Conclusion
In conclusion to the results from the survey we have found that Trade
newspapers are still the preferred medium for job seeking, but the
Internet is not far behind, in fact they are the closest results.
I would expect to see the Internet overtake Trade newspapers as the
most preferred medium for Job seekers, but I also think that these
trade newspapers can and will appoint Internet usage to their medium
which will allow job seekers more access to the positions they are
looking for.
